Broncos vS. Chargers Live

The Los Angeles Chargers begin a new era in their franchise history when they face the Denver Broncos to open their regular season on Monday Night Football. The Chargers (5-11 in 2016) are playing in Los Angeles for the first time since 1960 after they opted to leave San Diego after 55 years. The Chargers will host the Broncos in the StubHub Center and hope a change of home city will reverse their recent fortunes. The Chargers haven’t reached the playoffs since 2013.

The Chargers have a bunch of talent around quarterback Phillip Rivers. Running back Melvin Gordon came up just short of 1,000 yards – 997 yards – and he scored 10 touchdowns as he took a big jump in his sophomore season in 2016. They have veteran tight end Antonio Gates, although second-year player Hunter Henry will see more snaps in 2017. The Chargers also have a fleet of wide receivers including Keenan Allen and former Western Oregon University star Tyrell Williams.

The Broncos (9-7 in 2016), failed to reach the playoffs in 2016 after winning the Super Bowl the previous season. The biggest issue was quarterback play. Trevor Siemian completed 59.5 percent of his passes and threw 18 touchdown passes and 10 interceptions in 2016. Siemian, in his third season, had to beat back a challenge by Paxton Lynch to earn the starting spot in 2017.
